'Bloody battle'

I have been telling my Democratic friends – liberals and progressives: “We’re not the ones collecting guns and stockpiling ammo.”

Over the top? What is happening in this country is moving beyond partisan bickering. If loving this country makes me a patriot, then I am a patriot of the first order. i am neither blind to its warts nor its worth. As a patriot, I am both heartbroken about and scared to death of what lies ahead.

Some DemWit readers might already be aware of what transpired in St. Louis, Mo., last weekend. The following post from ThinkProgress, in case you missed it, reveals what should be a source of angst and alarm for any American:

Right-Wing Conference Tells Activists To Get Their Guns Ready For ‘Bloody Battle’ With Obama The Nazi

By Lee Fang
ThinkProgress, September 28, 2009

At the How To Take Back America Conference last weekend, conservative speaker Kitty Werthmann led a workshop called “How to recognize living under Nazis & Communists.”

Announcing the panel in a column preceding the conference, talk show host Janet Porter gushed how Werthmann’s description of Austria in the 1930s is a “mirror to America” today — noting “They had Joseph Goebbels; we have Mark Lloyd, the diversity czar.” The room was packed over capacity to hear Werthmann, who grew up as a Christian in Austria and serves as Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Forum South Dakota president.

During her session, Werthmann went through a litany of examples of how President Obama is like Adolf Hitler. She noted that Hitler, who acted “like an American politician,” was “elected in a 100 percent Christian nation.” Although she failed to once mention anti-Semitism or militarism, Werthmann explained how universal healthcare, an Equal Rights Amendment, and increased taxes were telltale signs of Nazism.

Werthmann also warned the audience:

“If we had our guns, we would have fought a bloody battle. So, keep your guns, and buy more guns, and buy ammunition. [...] Take back America. Don’t let them take the country into Socialism. And I refer again, Hitler’s party was National Socialism. [...] And that’s what we are having here right now, which is bordering on Marxism.”

Werthmann noted that her Nazism speech is gaining popularity. She not only has delivered it to several tea parties, but has been asked by “a group of bankers” to address them this month.

Before the event, ThinkProgress asked Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), one of several Republican members of Congress also speaking at the conference, to autograph Werthmann’s DVD about National Socialism. She happily obliged:

See photo of Bachmann’s autograph and watch video of Werthmann’s remarks HERE.

For the record, the number one argument against Social Security: it was a program begun by Adolph Hitler.

How To Take Back America? I would say that is the foremost problem facing our country today. How to take back America from a lunatic fringe preying on the fears of poor ignorant souls.

Frightening.

Germany became a Christian State because of her actions to make it so. From German, the words "Gott mit uns" translate easily. The question becomes, "What is it that makes us think that we act in the name of God?"

The answer for many is what they have read, or think they read, or heard, or think they heard, what God said.

The logical response, to increase the amount of information available, and thereby give everyone a greater opportunity to make informed judgment, is where we are now, and we are befuddled because it isn't working. Our mistake has been our acceptance of the vacuum in which we live.

We go to school--for what reason? Too many of us say, "In order to get a good job."

We go to church--for what reason? Too many of us say, "To be forgiven for our Sins."

We sacrifice for our children--for what reason? Too many of us say, "To give them a better life."

Answers too easily given, and never challenged. Behind these answers, and hundreds of others, is our "dark side." We challenge motivation, not reason. We encourage that in the actions of others. We institutionalize these responses by accusing others without the acceptance of personal responsibility.

Frodo asks, simply, that we stop talking about Glenn Beck and Michelle Bachmann. We can respond to every charge and every falsehood without mentioning their names or why we think they act as they do.

Frodo will start. Today, he will go an entire day and never mention the names identified above. Tomorrow, he will add two more names to the list.

With all due respect to my Fellow Hobbit, we cannot simply ignore what’s happening around us, that would be too much like what happened before (and after) Hitler became Chancellor. We do not need a “Fellowship of the Ostrich.”

Don’t want to scratch our heads in disbelief when Obama becomes a one-term president, do we? (Remember who got re-elected because of the attacks against John Kerry?)

Frodo is right on about the stated responses to why we adhere to certain instutions: getting a job as a goal of education when we should be more concerned about acquired a well-rounded, liberal education, going to church to seek forgiveness when we should be more concened about doing good, and so forth.

Not to stray too far from the post, the appaearance of “several Republican members of Congress” on the program with Werthmann is of concern.

Every once in a while I actually like to write about something that fits the description of my blog, which can be found at the top of DemWit’s sidebar.

The Conservatives cheered on by the GOP and their blowhard shock jock talking heads are off the edge. Our greatest concern when it comes to Idiocrates is that they could start shooting people on their way down the cliff before they hit the bottom. The concern with the leadership of both parties’ is that they will continue to do the bidding of big business special interests.

The interests of the citizen are what must be defended and some few legislators give a good appearance for their concern to that end. When it fails to produce results one can speculate that the standard practice is to yell about the poor people so long as insufficient support exists to actually change things for the better.

I fear we have more enemy's than we are emmediately aware of.

Frodo says attack the argument, just don't attach any level of credibility to the "allegator" (to quote Roscoe J.Calhoun,Esq.).

Take the name Ann Coulter--she makes Frodo gag, yet he cannot, from memory recite a single thing she has ever said. So why not ignore her? For every outlandish statement she may make in the future, attack the lie. Just let that ugly dog pay for her publicity, we don't need to give her anything for free.

And don't forget VW bugs! Though I don't think that's an argument against hybrids.
